Helping to thatch the Neolithic Horton House!
The Friends of Butser Ancient Farm is a charity set up to support the farm’s experimental research, construction and educational activities. The Friends were set up in 1976 when a group of supporters agreed to formalise their association with the farm by adopting a constitution and registering as a charity.

Funds raised by the Friends have been used for a number of different projects on the farm, in recent years these have included:
2017 – Refurbishment of the Roman Villa, data loggers
2018 – Weather station, Little Woodbury roundhouse rethatching
2019 – New Neolithic House
2020 – Moel y Gerddi roundhouse rethatching
2021 – New benches and memorial plaque outside the Roman Villa
2022 – Refurbishment of the Bronze Age roundhouse
2023 – New formal Roman Garden
2024 - Thatching of the Wyke Down building, signage and interpretation boards
